Urgent Action: Call for the Release of Mohammed Alhazza Amid Severe Violations and a Serious Threat to His Life
SANAD Human Rights Organization calls on Saudi authorities to immediately and unconditionally release Mohammed bin Ahmed bin Eid Alhazza Al-Ghamdi, who faces a 23-year prison sentence for exercising his right to freedom of expression through his work as a cartoonist. Alhazza has suffered severe violations in prison, including torture, enforced disappearance, and deliberate medical neglect, which pose a serious threat to his life.
SANAD also urges all international human rights organizations to take swift action to condemn Mohammed Al-Haza’a’s detention and the violations he endures inside Saudi prisons, including his unfair trial and the harsh conditions in which he is held. These violations not only infringe upon his basic rights but also directly endanger his life due to medical neglect and mistreatment.
In the same context, SANAD calls on the international community, including governments and international bodies, to take immediate steps to pressure Saudi authorities to release Mohammed Alhazza. His continued detention under these harsh conditions reflects Saudi Arabia’s disregard for international human rights conventions, and urgent action is needed to save his life and ensure he receives a fair trial.
SANAD issues an urgent appeal to activists and civil society around the world to intensify their efforts in support of Mohammed Alhazza’s case. Media platforms and social media should be utilized to increase pressure on Saudi authorities, emphasizing the need for his immediate release before his health deteriorates further.
It is noteworthy that Mohammed Alhazza Al-Ghamdi is a Saudi cartoonist who was arrested by Saudi authorities in February 2018 due to his work as a cartoonist for the Qatari newspaper Lusail and for expressing his views on social media. Al-Haza’a was subjected to an unfair trial with fabricated charges related to freedom of opinion and expression, leading to a 23-year prison sentence. Since his arrest, Alhazza has suffered multiple violations, including psychological and physical torture, enforced disappearance, denial of contact with his family, and medical neglect, which has caused a severe decline in his health.
