Saadallah Al-Hawali has been unjustly detained by the Saudi authorities since July 2018. He is the brother of Dr. Safar Al-Hawali, who was also detained for drafting a book that criticized the Saudi government.
In prison, Al-Hawali has faced numerous severe violations, including enforced disappearance, being denied communication with his family, and undergoing an unfair trial. The trial was conducted secretly without even allowing him to appoint a lawyer, ending in a 4-year prison sentence. Despite the illegality of the sentence, an appeals court increased it to 14 years.
Saadallah Al-Hawali is a victim of the repressive Saudi regime, and his arrest exemplifies human rights violations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. SANAD Organisation for Human Rights calls for the annulment of Al-Hawali’s sentence and his immediate and unconditional release.
