Imran Al-Arkani Completes Five Years Behind Bars

Humanitarian activist Imran Al-Arkani has spent five years in arbitrary detention in Saudi prisons since his arrest at his home in Mecca in October 2021, without clear legal justification or credible charges.

Al-Arkani’s arrest followed a systematic smear campaign targeting him through government-affiliated social media accounts. One year after his arrest, in October 2022, the Specialized Criminal Court sentenced him to 25 years in prison.

The Court of Appeal later reduced his sentence to 20 years. However, the sentence remains arbitrary and excessively long.

SANAD Human Rights Organization renews its call for the arbitrary sentence against Imran Al-Arkani to be overturned and for his immediate and unconditional release, alongside the release of all prisoners of conscience in Saudi Arabia and an end to policies restricting freedoms and ongoing human rights violations.
