Despite Completing His Sentence… Dr. Amer Al-Almaei Remains Detained for a Seventh Year

The seventh anniversary of the arrest of Dr. Amer Al-Almaei, an internal medicine specialist and former preacher in Abha, comes as he remains detained since March 2019 without legal justification.

Although his sentence was reduced from nine years to four and a half years, and has already been completed, Saudi authorities continue to hold him in Sha’ar Prison, known for serious abuses including medical neglect and physical and psychological mistreatment.

SANAD Human Rights Organization condemns his continued detention and calls for his immediate release, urging increased international pressure to end violations against prisoners of conscience.
