SANAD Calls for the Release of Saadallah Al-Hawali, Brother of Dr. Safar Al-Hawali
Since July 2018, Saudi authorities have continued to detain Saadallah Al-Hawali, the brother of Dr. Safar Al-Hawali, who was also arrested over a draft book criticizing the Saudi government. Since his arrest, Saadallah Al-Hawali has been subjected to multiple violations, including enforced disappearance and denial of contact with his family.
Saadallah Al-Hawali was tried in an unfair and secret trial without being allowed to appoint a lawyer. Although he was initially sentenced to four years in prison, the Court of Appeal increased the sentence to 14 years.
SANAD Human Rights Organization calls for the release of Saadallah Al-Hawali, his brother Safar Al-Hawali, and his three sons — Abdullah Safar Al-Hawali, Abdulrahim Safar Al-Hawali, and Abdulrahman Safar Al-Hawali — along with appropriate compensation, and urges the release of all prisoners of conscience.
