After 3,050 days of detention… Dr. Mohammed Mousa Al-Sharif remains behind bars
Dr. Mohammed Mousa Al-Sharif has completed 3,050 days in Saudi prisons since his arrest in September 2017, as part of a campaign that targeted influencers, thinkers, and activists. He is serving an arbitrary ten-year prison sentence.
Throughout his years of detention, Dr. Al-Sharif has been subjected to serious violations. Most recently, following surgery to remove a hernia, prison authorities reportedly removed his bed and forced him to sleep on the floor, significantly worsening his pain, according to human rights sources. He was also deprived of water for extended periods, to the point that extreme thirst drove him to scream for help without any response.
Earlier, security forces raided his home at night, mistreated him during arrest, subjected him to enforced disappearance for a prolonged period, and denied him contact with his family or the right to appoint a lawyer. He was also charged with 20 retaliatory and unfounded accusations.
Dr. Al-Sharif is a former pilot with Saudi Arabian Airlines, a writer, and a researcher in history, with encyclopedic publications and media programs. He is widely known for his pro-freedom positions and his opposition to repressive regimes.
SANAD Human Rights Organization calls for the immediate and unconditional release of Dr. Mohammed Mousa Al-Sharif, an end to all violations against him, and the release of all prisoners of conscience in Saudi Arabia.
