Mohammed Dleem Al-Qahtani (68)… Eight Years of Arbitrary Detention in Saudi Arabia

These days mark the eighth anniversary of the arrest of Islamic thinker and human rights activist Mohammed Dleem Al-Qahtani, who was detained by Saudi authorities in September 2017, despite his advanced age and deteriorating health.

Since his arrest, Al-Qahtani—now over 68 years old—has faced severe abuses in prison, including solitary confinement and physical and psychological torture, which led to a stroke causing paralysis on the left side of his body. Despite also suffering from chronic illnesses such as diabetes and heart disease, Saudi authorities continue to hold him arbitrarily.

SANAD Human Rights Organization calls on Saudi authorities to immediately and unconditionally release Mohammed Dleem Al-Qahtani, ensure he receives proper medical care, and provide fair compensation. The organization also reiterates its demand to end the systematic repression of peaceful opinion-holders and release all prisoners of conscience in Saudi Arabia.
