Over Four Years Since the Arrest of Yemeni Journalist Ali Mohsen Abu Luhoum in Saudi Prisons

The detention of Yemeni journalist Ali Mohsen Abu Luhoum has exceeded four years, as he remains imprisoned in Saudi Arabia since his arrest on 23 August 2021 in front of his home in Najran, over tweets allegedly linked to anonymous accounts he denied having any connection with.

In October 2021, the Specialized Criminal Court sentenced Abu Luhoum to 15 years in prison on charges related to “publishing articles on social media.” The sentence was upheld in January 2022.

Abu Luhoum is known for his distinguished media career. He previously worked at “Yemen Times Radio” in Yemen and has served as Executive Director of Al-Wadi TV channel in Saudi Arabia since 2015.

SANAD Human Rights Organization affirms that Abu Luhoum’s continued detention constitutes a blatant violation of freedom of opinion and expression. SANAD calls on Saudi authorities to overturn the unjust sentence, release him immediately and unconditionally, and compensate him for the material and moral damages suffered as a result of his arbitrary detention.
