On the eighth anniversary of his arrest, SANAD calls for the release of Mousa Al-Ghannami

Today marks eight years since the arrest of Mousa al-Ghannami on 18 September 2017, during the September 2017 crackdown in which a number of peaceful activists and opinion-holders in Saudi Arabia were detained.

Over the years of his imprisonment, al-Ghannami has faced multiple violations, including the denial of his most basic rights such as regular family contact and access to a fair trial. He has also endured medical neglect and deteriorating prison conditions.

Saudi authorities brought vague and politically motivated charges against him, most notably “collaborating with foreign parties” and “undermining state security,” accusations commonly used in the Kingdom to target peaceful activists and suppress freedoms.

SANAD reiterates its demand for the immediate release of Mousa al-Ghannami and his compensation for the years of arbitrary detention and abuses he has suffered. The organization also calls for the release of all prisoners of conscience and an end to the ongoing repression that threatens citizens and residents across the Kingdom.
