Four Years Since the Arrest of Dr. Ali al-Tuwati for Tweets Criticizing the UAE
This month marks the fourth anniversary of the arrest of Dr. Ali al-Tuwati al-Qurashi, a prominent Saudi writer and economic and strategic analyst, who was detained by the Saudi authorities in September 2021 over tweets in which he criticized the policies of the United Arab Emirates.
Dr. al-Tuwati is regarded as one of Saudi Arabia’s distinguished academic and military figures. He earned a PhD in Regional Economics and Public Finance from Syracuse University in the United States and held senior leadership positions at the Ministry of Defense.
SANAD Human Rights Organization affirms that the continued detention of Dr. Ali al-Tuwati constitutes arbitrary detention and calls on the Saudi authorities to release him immediately and unconditionally.
