Saudi Arabia Executes Mahdi Al-Bazroun on Vague Charges: 18th Political Execution in 2025

Saudi authorities have executed Mahdi bin Ahmed bin Jassem Al-Bazroun, a Saudi citizen, in the Eastern Province, on vague and undefined charges. According to the Interior Ministry, he was convicted of joining a “terrorist organization” and harboring wanted individuals, without disclosing the name of the group or specific actions—part of a recurring pattern of ambiguity in politically motivated executions.

SANAD Human Rights Organization strongly condemns this execution—the 18th political execution in 2025—and warns that terrorism-related charges are being weaponized to silence dissent and eliminate activists.

SANAD previously documented the execution of journalist Turki Al-Jasser for tweets authorities labeled “terrorist activity,” and Dhafir Al-Shahri, executed over a single tweet. These cases reflect a disturbing expansion of the terrorism label to include peaceful expression and activism.

SANAD calls for the immediate halt of politically motivated executions, urges the international community and UN bodies to intervene urgently, and calls for independent fact-finding missions to investigate Saudi Arabia’s use of torture, denial of legal counsel, and violation of due process rights.

The ongoing use of the death penalty under vague and abusive justifications signals deepening repression and the urgent need for greater international pressure on Saudi authorities.
