Sanad Organization: Saudi Arabia Executes 13th Political Prisoner in 2025 – Mohammed Al-Rashed
On Monday, May 26, 2025, Saudi authorities executed Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Mubarak Al-Rashed, according to an official statement issued by the Ministry of Interior. The execution took place in a prison in the Al-Qassim region and marks the 13th politically motivated execution in Saudi Arabia this year, as documented by Sanad Human Rights Organization.
According to the official statement, Al-Rashed was convicted of charges including “espionage for a terrorist organization” (without naming the organization), “breach of trust,” and “leaking sensitive information.” These types of charges are routinely used by Saudi authorities against dissidents, activists, and individuals expressing dissenting opinions. Sanad notes that even if these accusations were proven, they do not legally or religiously warrant the death penalty, and the court’s statement lacked any detailed evidence meeting the threshold for the most severe form of punishment.
This case adds to a growing list of executions carried out under the rule of Mohammed bin Salman, often following secret trials, vague charges, and lack of basic fair trial guarantees, as confirmed by numerous human rights reports. These cases raise serious concerns over the systematic use of the judicial system to legitimize political repression.
Sanad strongly condemns this unjust execution, reiterates its demand for an immediate moratorium on all politically motivated death sentences, and calls for the formation of independent investigative committees to re-examine the cases of death row inmates. The organization also urges the United Nations and international human rights bodies to apply maximum pressure on Saudi authorities to halt this ongoing loss of innocent lives.
