On the Fifth Anniversary of His Arrest, Sanad Calls for the Immediate Release of Dr. Ibrahim Al-Duwaish, Detained Since 2020
These days mark the fifth anniversary of the arrest of Saudi academic and preacher Dr. Ibrahim Abdullah Al-Duwaish, who has been imprisoned since April 2020. He is currently serving a 15-year prison sentence issued after an unfair trial that lacked the most basic standards of justice and transparency, with no clear legal basis for his detention.
Dr. Ibrahim Al-Duwaish is a well-known academic and social figure in Saudi Arabia. He serves as a professor at Qassim University, has published in various Saudi and Arab newspapers and journals, and authored several specialized books and research papers. He has also participated in numerous local and international conferences and founded the Ru’ya Charity Center for Social Studies.
Sanad Human Rights Organization stresses that Dr. Al-Duwaish’s continued detention is part of the Saudi government’s systematic campaign against academics, intellectuals, preachers, and opinion leaders — a policy aimed at silencing independent voices.
Sanad calls on the Saudi authorities to release Dr. Ibrahim Al-Duwaish immediately and unconditionally, affirming that his rightful place is among his students, community, and family — not behind bars. The organization also urges the international community and human rights organizations to intensify their efforts and pressure the Saudi government to end these violations and ensure the release of all prisoners of conscience without conditions.
