Mohammed Al-Judai Released After Nearly Five Years of Detention

The Saudi authorities have released Mohammed Al-Judai after nearly five years of imprisonment, following his arrest in April 2020 over tweets expressing his opinions on Twitter, despite his lack of political involvement.

In a grossly unfair trial, the Specialized Criminal Court of Appeals in Riyadh sentenced him to 18 years in prison, depriving him of his basic rights.

While Sanad Human Rights Organization welcomes Al-Judai’s release, it emphasizes that freeing detainees does not absolve the Saudi authorities of responsibility for the grave violations they endured during their years of imprisonment—including arbitrary detention, mistreatment, and the absence of fair trials.

Sanad renews its call for the immediate release of all prisoners of conscience and demands accountability for those responsible for severe human rights violations.
