SANAD Calls for the Release of Dr. Osama Al-Hasani and Compensation for the Violations He Endured
Saudi authorities continue to detain Dr. Osama Al-Hasani, an academic and Saudi citizen who also holds Australian citizenship, serving a four-year prison sentence without any clear legal justification or fair trial.
Dr. Al-Hasani traveled to Tangier, Morocco, in early 2021 to reunite with his Moroccan wife and their newborn child. However, on February 8, 2021, Moroccan authorities arrested him following a Saudi request through Interpol. On March 13, 2021, he was extradited to Saudi Arabia, an action described by Human Rights Watch as a blatant example of authoritarian regimes misusing Interpol’s red notices for political purposes to target dissidents and critics abroad.
SANAD rights organization urges Saudi authorities to immediately release Dr. Osama Al-Hasani and ensure he receives fair compensation for the violations he suffered. The organization also calls for the release of all prisoners of conscience arbitrarily detained in Saudi prisons.
