Zuheir Kutbi: Six Years of Detention and Medical Neglect in Saudi Prisons
Today, January 10, 2025, marks the sixth anniversary of the arrest of journalist and writer Zuheir Kutbi, who was detained in January 2019 without any legal justification. His arrest was part of a wider campaign targeting academics and activists, during which his home was raided in a horrifying and unlawful manner.
Zuheir Kutbi suffers from prostate cancer and diabetes, and his health has severely deteriorated due to ongoing medical neglect in prison. Furthermore, Saudi authorities subjected him to solitary confinement for several months, a flagrant violation of human rights.
The Sanad Human Rights Organization renews its call for Saudi authorities to immediately and unconditionally release Zuheir Kutbi and to fairly compensate him for the harm caused by his arbitrary detention. Sanad also urges the release of all prisoners of conscience and calls for an end to practices that violate individual rights and contravene both domestic and international laws.
