Saudi Arabia Continues to Detain Dr. Abdulmohsen Al-Ahmad Despite the Completion of His Sentence 3 Months Ago

Saudi authorities continue to detain respiratory disease specialist Dr. Abdulmohsen Al-Ahmad, despite his seven-year sentence ending three months ago.

Dr. Al-Ahmad was arrested in September 2017 when security forces raided his home in the middle of the night, terrorizing him and his family during the arrest. He was then taken to an undisclosed location without being informed of the reasons for his detention. He was forcibly disappeared for six months before it was revealed that he was being held in Al-Ha’ir Prison in Riyadh.

During his imprisonment, Dr. Al-Ahmad faced arbitrary practices, including physical and psychological torture, prolonged solitary confinement, and denial of his right to appoint a lawyer for his defense.

Dr. Abdulmohsen Al-Ahmad, a native of Riyadh, graduated from Ball State University with a specialization in respiratory diseases and obtained another specialization from Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University. He is known for his strong presence on social media platforms and an interactive website featuring numerous educational materials.

Sanad Human Rights Organization has called on Saudi authorities to immediately and unconditionally release Dr. Abdulmohsen Al-Ahmad and all prisoners of conscience. The organization emphasized that his continued detention after completing his sentence constitutes a blatant violation of human rights as well as local and international laws.
