On the Third Anniversary of His Arrest: Imran Al-Arkani Faces a Long-Term 20-Year Prison Sentence

As of October 2024, humanitarian activist Imran Al-Arkani marks three years of arbitrary detention, with no legal justification for his imprisonment. He remains under arbitrary arrest to this day.

Al-Arkani’s ordeal began in October 2021, when he was arrested from his home in Mecca following a wide campaign of incitement by government-affiliated accounts that directly targeted him. After a full year of detention, in October 2022, the Specialized Criminal Court sentenced him to 25 years in prison, despite the absence of clear or valid charges to justify such an unjust sentence.

Subsequently, the Court of Appeals reviewed the initial ruling and reduced the sentence from 25 years to 20 years. However, even with this reduction, the sentence remains lengthy and lacks any legal basis for such a harsh punishment.

The Sanad human rights organization continues to call for the revocation of this arbitrary sentence against Imran Al-Arkani and demands his immediate and unconditional release. The organization also calls for the release of all prisoners of conscience in Saudi Arabia.
