Severe violations against elderly Aida Al-Ghamdi and her son: 16 years of imprisonment, psychological and physical torture

The 66-year-old Aida Al-Ghamdi has been serving a 16-year prison sentence since her arrest on March 26, 2018, in Dammam, along with her son Adel Al-Ghamdi, who is serving a 14-year sentence.

Aida Al-Ghamdi was arrested due to her communication with her son, a dissident abroad, and for receiving a small financial aid from him. During their detention, Aida and her son Adel were subjected to numerous severe violations, including being beaten and kicked, especially in the face, along with psychological and physical torture, where each was tortured in front of the other. Additionally, cigarette butts were extinguished on their bodies.

SANAD Organisation for Human Rights calls on Saudi authorities to immediately and unconditionally release Aida Al-Ghamdi and her son Adel Al-Ghamdi and provide them with necessary compensation. It also calls for the release of all prisoners of conscience and the cessation of all repression campaigns against citizens and residents.
