SANAD Organisation: Saudi Arabia Executes Abdul-Majeed Al-Nimr Amid Repressive Campaign and Fabricated Charges
The Saudi Ministry of Interior issued a statement announcing the execution of citizen Abdul-Majeed Al-Nimr on charges related to treason and joining a terrorist cell affiliated with Al-Qaeda. The execution was carried out in Riyadh on Saturday, August 17, 2024.
SANAD Organisation for Human Rights strongly condemns this execution, noting that the charges against Abdul-Majeed Al-Nimr lack credibility and fairness. It emphasized that Al-Nimr belongs to the Shia sect, which is not aligned with the Al-Qaeda terrorist organization, further indicating that the Saudi authorities have fabricated these charges against him.
SANAD Organisation considers this execution part of a broader campaign by Saudi authorities to suppress dissent and silence voices. Saudi Arabia has seen an unprecedented rise in executions since Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman assumed power. Human rights reports indicate that the number of executions has significantly increased in recent years, raising serious concerns about the state of human rights in the country.
SANAD Organisation stresses that this execution, along with similar rulings, is part of a repressive policy aimed at intimidating society and silencing any opposition voices. The organization warns that the continuation of such practices poses a significant threat to justice and human rights in Saudi Arabia. Sanad calls on the international community to intervene immediately to stop these violations and protect the rights of Saudi citizens.
