The Saudi authorities have released Yemeni human rights activist Samira Al-Houri and her son Ahmed Al-Hilili after more than two years of detention. The Saudi authorities arrested Yemeni activist Samira Al-Houri and her son Ahmed Al-Hilili on April 17, 2022, from their residence in Saudi Arabia and forcibly disappeared them until their release in July 2024.

Samira Al-Houri is a Yemeni media activist who advocates for women’s rights in Yemen. She had previously been detained in Yemen before being released and flown to Saudi Arabia on a private plane following an official invitation, where she was hosted at the expense of the Saudi government.

SANAD Organisation for Human Rights congratulates activist Samira Al-Houri and her son Ahmed Al-Hilili on their release and calls on the Saudi authorities to release all prisoners of conscience in Saudi jails.
