Medical neglect leads to Dr. Nasser Al-Omar losing hearing in one ear
The Saudi authorities continue their human rights violations through the deliberate medical neglect of prisoners of conscience, especially the elderly, in an attempt to increase repression against them and cause them health damages. As a result of this neglect, Dr. Nasser Al-Omar has lost hearing in one ear.
The Saudi authorities’ treatment of detainees in this disgraceful and condemned manner constitutes a crime against humanity and must stop immediately. We call on the international community and human rights organizations to intervene immediately to save the life of Dr. Nasser Al-Omar and all prisoners of conscience in Saudi Arabia and ensure they receive the necessary medical care. We also call for the Saudi authorities to be held accountable for their violations and for the unconditional release of all prisoners of conscience.
It is worth noting that Dr. Nasser Al-Omar was arrested in August 2018 after a tweet in which he expressed his opinion about social transformations in Saudi Arabia. Despite his advanced age and suffering from chronic diseases, the Saudi authorities increased his sentence from 10 years to 30 years.
