Missing Justice & Human Rights Violations in Saud Arabia
The report notes the continued detention of citizens, opinion expressers, activists, and human rights defenders by Saudi authorities without charges or fair trials. Detainees were subjected to torture and ill-treatment, including solitary confinement and denial of medical care.
The report also highlighted a significant increase in the rate of executions in Saudi Arabia during 2023, with 170 people being executed. Saudi courts issue sentences against detainees without any legal reasons, forcing them to confess to charges under torture. The report further pointed out the ongoing suppression of freedom of expression in Saudi Arabia, and restrictions on press freedom and assembly.
SANAD Organisation for Human Rights recommended in its 2023 report concrete measures to improve the human rights situation in Saudi Arabia, including the release of all political detainees, cessation of torture and ill-treatment, ensuring judicial independence, respecting freedom of expression, ending discrimination against women and minorities, and undertaking comprehensive human rights reforms. The organization also called on citizens to break the silence, speak openly about their relatives, escalate human rights discourse, contribute to the release of their relatives, and increase pressure on the Saudi government to end human rights violations.
