Medical negligence in Saudi prisons is on the rise, and Dr. Mohammed Musa Al-Sharif is a new victim.
Human rights sources have disclosed that Dr. Mohammed Musa Al-Sharif underwent a surgical procedure to remove a “hernia”. Despite his need for post-operative care, the prison administration intentionally exacerbated his suffering and neglected his medical needs.
These sources reported that the prison administration removed Dr. Al-Sharif’s bed from his cell, forcing him to lie on the floor. This led to further pain in addition to the discomfort from the surgery. The prison’s mistreatment did not end there; they also deprived him of water for an extended period, causing his condition to deteriorate to the point where he was screaming and moaning from extreme thirst, with no intervention or response from the prison officials.
On its part, SANAD organisation is calling for an immediate investigation into these violations and demanding that those responsible be held accountable. It emphasizes the necessity of ensuring proper medical care for all detainees and guaranteeing their fundamental rights in accordance with international laws and human rights standards.
