On the Sixth Anniversary of His Arrest, SANAD Calls for the Release of Nubian Activist Abdelsalam Bahr

These days mark the sixth anniversary of the arrest of Egyptian Nubian activist Abdelsalam Gomaa Ali Bahr, who has been detained in Abha Prison since July 2020 over his participation in organizing a peaceful event in Riyadh commemorating the 1973 October War.

Saudi authorities arrested Bahr on July 14, 2020, during a raid on his home as part of a campaign targeting ten Egyptian Nubians on the same day.

According to rights organizations, Bahr was subjected to enforced disappearance for two months following his arrest and was denied regular contact with his family and lawyer for extended periods.

On October 10, 2022, the Specialized Criminal Court sentenced him to 12 years in prison, according to documentation by Human Rights Watch.

SANAD Human Rights Organization renewed its call for the immediate release of Abdelsalam Gomaa and all Nubian detainees, and for providing them justice and compensation for the harm caused by their detention.
