2000 Days Since the Arrest of Media Activist Rakan al-Asiri
It has now been 2000 days since media activist Rakan al-Asiri was arbitrarily detained in April 2020 without any legal justification.
During his detention, al-Asiri has faced multiple violations, including being denied contact with his family for extended periods after his arrest. He was also exploited inside prison, where he was coerced into appearing in a government television program aimed at polishing the image of Saudi prisons.
SANAD Human Rights Organization has called on Saudi authorities to end al-Asiri’s suffering by granting his immediate and unconditional release and halting all violations against him. SANAD further urged the international community and human rights organizations to increase pressure to ensure respect for detainees’ rights and to guarantee their access to fair trials in line with international standards.
