Saudi Authorities Execute Abdullah Al Abu Abdullah: The 12th Political Execution in 2025

Saudi authorities have carried out the execution of citizen Abdullah bin Ali Al Abu Abdullah, adding to the growing list of politically motivated executions in the kingdom this year. Sanad Human Rights Organization has recorded this case as the 12th political execution in 2025.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Interior, the execution was based on charges including “belonging to a terrorist group,” “undermining security,” and “targeting security personnel.” These vague accusations lacked clearly defined criminal acts and relied on broad, generalized language that has frequently been used against activists and dissidents—without presenting any concrete evidence to the public.

Sanad views the continued issuance and implementation of death sentences based on such ambiguous charges, without transparency or independent judicial oversight, as a deeply alarming indication of the increasing political use of capital punishment in Saudi Arabia.

The organization reiterates its call for an immediate halt to all politically motivated executions, and for international and domestic monitoring of legal proceedings to ensure fairness, transparency, and the protection of defendants’ rights in accordance with the international treaties to which Saudi Arabia is a party.

Sanad also urges the international community and human rights organizations to take urgent action to protect detainees at risk of execution and to pressure Saudi authorities to end these grave violations of the right to life.
