SANAD Condemns the Execution of Three Saudis on Vague Charges and Calls for International Intervention to Halt Human Rights Violations in Saudi Arabia

In a statement issued today, Sunday, September 8, 2024, the Saudi Ministry of Interior announced the execution of three Saudi nationals: Talal bin Ali bin Khunaifis Al-Hadhli, Majdi bin Mohammed bin Atayan Al-Kaabi, and Raid bin Amer bin Mutar Al-Kaabi. The individuals were convicted on charges of “treason,” providing support to terrorist entities, and collaborating with them. The execution was carried out in the Riyadh region following a ruling by the Specialized Criminal Court, which found them guilty of these charges.

SANAD Human Rights Organization strongly condemns the execution of these individuals and considers the charges against them to be vague and overly broad, with no clear or public evidence presented to prove their actual involvement in the alleged crimes. The organization further asserts that such charges are troublingly used to silence dissenting voices and suppress political and civil liberties, rather than to genuinely achieve justice.

SANAD also expresses deep concern over the alarming increase in executions in Saudi Arabia in recent times, viewing this as a reflection of the deterioration of the human rights situation and an escalation in the use of the death penalty as a tool for repression. SANAD emphasizes that this escalation represents a blatant violation of international standards and calls for urgent international intervention to curb these growing violations.
