1290 days and Rakan Al-Asiri remains under arbitrary detention.
Since the beginning of April 2020, Saudi authorities have been detaining media activist Rakan Al-Asiri. His arrest came as part of a campaign launched by the authorities against several activists in Saudi Arabia without any legal reasons.
After detaining Al-Asiri, the Saudi authorities imposed restrictions on his family and did not allow him to communicate with them until months after his arrest date.
Among the violations that Rakan Al-Asiri has faced since his arrest is being forced to appear on the Saudi news channel as part of the authorities’ campaign to improve the image of their prisons. As of today, October 13, 2023, which is 1290 days after his arrest, Rakan Al-Asiri has not been released, and he has not been tried.
