Ninth Year Behind Bars for Poet Nawaf Al-Dubaikhi

These days mark the ninth anniversary of the arrest of Saudi poet Nawaf Al-Dubaikhi, who was detained by Saudi authorities during the September 2017 crackdown over the peaceful expression of his views.

The court initially sentenced him to 20 years in prison, before the sentence was later reduced to 16 years. During his detention, Al-Dubaikhi was denied family visits for prolonged periods and access to a lawyer, while also suffering from medical neglect and poor detention conditions.

Al-Dubaikhi remains detained to this day, alongside a number of others arrested during the September 2017 crackdown who received lengthy prison sentences and continue to be denied several of their fundamental rights.

SANAD Human Rights Organization calls on Saudi authorities to immediately and unconditionally release poet #Nawaf_AlDubaikhi and all prisoners of conscience, and to provide them with appropriate compensation.
