3,060 Days Behind Bars… SANAD Calls for the Release of Dr. Hassan Farhan Al-Maliki
It has been 3,060 days since Saudi authorities arrested Dr. Hassan Farhan Al-Maliki in September 2017. He remains arbitrarily detained without legal basis, amid ongoing threats of a possible death sentence.
Throughout his years of detention, Dr. Al-Maliki has been subjected to serious violations, including the raid on his home and the intimidation of his family at the time of arrest, denial of access to a lawyer, prolonged solitary confinement, and extended bans on communication with his family. He was also denied the right to bid farewell to his son Farhan or attend his funeral after his son passed away during his detention.
Dr. Al-Maliki’s case highlights a systematic pattern of targeting independent thinkers and opinion holders in Saudi Arabia, marked by the erosion of fair trial guarantees, the politicization of the judiciary, and the use of vague laws to suppress critical voices.
In this context, SANAD Human Rights Organization renews its call on Saudi authorities to immediately and unconditionally release Dr. Hassan Al-Maliki, provide redress for the harm inflicted on him and his family, compensate him for the physical and psychological abuse he endured, end repressive policies that violate fundamental rights and freedoms, and release all prisoners of conscience.
