Continued Detention of Dr. Ismail Al-Hassan, Office Director of Dr. Safar Al-Hawali, Since 2018 in Saudi Arabia
Saudi authorities have continued to detain Dr. Ismail Al-Hassan since July 2018, solely because of his position as Office Director for Dr. Safar Al-Hawali, who was also arrested that same year.
According to human rights sources, Dr. Al-Hassan is serving a ten-year prison sentence, amid a complete lack of transparency and absence of information regarding the circumstances of his detention or trial.
It is worth noting that in July 2018, Saudi authorities arrested Dr. Safar Al-Hawali, along with his sons Abdullah, Abdulrahim, and Abdulrahman, as well as his brother Saadallah Al-Hawali, following the circulation of a draft book authored by Al-Hawali that included criticisms of the situation in Saudi Arabia and advice directed to society, scholars, and the ruling family.
SANAD Human Rights Organization calls on the Saudi authorities to immediately and unconditionally release Dr. Ismail Al-Hassan, Dr. Safar Al-Hawali and his family, as well as all prisoners of conscience in the Kingdom.
