Six years since the arrest of Bandar Al-Jahdali over tweets about unemployment

These days mark the sixth anniversary of the arrest of young Saudi man Bandar Al-Jahdali, detained in November 2019 amid the broad crackdown carried out by Saudi authorities against activists and social media users.

Al-Jahdali was arrested over tweets in which he criticized unemployment conditions in Saudi Arabia and demanded an opportunity to work. Since his arrest, no information has been released about the circumstances of his detention or any legal proceedings against him.

SANAD Human Rights Organization affirms that the ongoing detention of Bandar Al-Jahdali without any legal basis constitutes a blatant violation of human rights and freedom of expression. The organization calls on the Saudi authorities to immediately release him and grant fair compensation, and urges the release of all prisoners of conscience unconditionally.
