Since 2017: Mousa Al-Ghannami — A Prisoner of Conscience in the Grip of Saudi Authoritarianism

For nearly eight years, Saudi authorities have continued to detain Mousa Al-Ghannami, arrested in September 2017, as part of a broader systematic crackdown targeting citizens and residents for expressing opinions or engaging in peaceful activism.

Al-Ghannami was arrested on the basis of vague and politically motivated charges, including “communicating with foreign entities” and “undermining state security”—accusations frequently used by the Saudi regime to circumvent legal norms and suppress freedoms.

During his imprisonment, Al-Ghannami has suffered serious human rights violations, including denial of contact with his family, lack of fair trial guarantees, medical neglect, and harsh detention conditions.

Sanad Human Rights Organization urges Saudi authorities to immediately release Mousa Al-Ghannami and provide appropriate compensation for the harm he has endured. The organization further calls for the release of all prisoners of conscience and an end to the ongoing repression against both citizens and residents within the Kingdom.
