On the Seventh Anniversary of His Arrest… Free Mohammed Al-Bajadi Now

Today, May 24, 2025, marks the seventh anniversary of the arrest of Saudi human rights activist Mohammed Al-Bajadi, one of the co-founders of the Saudi Civil and Political Rights Association (hasm). He remains in detention despite having completed his sentence in 2023.

The Saudi judiciary had sentenced Al-Bajadi to ten years in prison, with five years suspended. However, the authorities continued to detain him beyond his term without any legal justification.

Al-Bajadi has faced repeated arrests over the years—in 2007, 2008, and 2011. During his 2011 arrest, he was sentenced to eight years in prison, half of which was suspended, along with a four-year travel ban. He was released in 2016 after spending more than five years behind bars.

Since his latest arrest in 2018, Al-Bajadi has been subjected to serious human rights violations, including prolonged solitary confinement, physical and psychological torture, denial of family visits and communication, and the denial of his right to legal representation.

Sanad Human Rights Organization reiterates its call for the immediate and unconditional release of Mohammed Al-Bajadi, and demands that he be granted all his legal and human rights. The organization also urges the international community and human rights bodies to increase pressure on Saudi authorities to end their ongoing violations against peaceful activists and human rights defenders.
