On the Third Anniversary of His Arrest: Sanad Human Rights Organization Renews Its Call for the Release of Dr. Abdullah Al-Faiz

These days mark the third anniversary of the arrest of lawyer and former judge Dr. Abdullah Al-Faiz, who was detained in March 2022 over old tweets in which he expressed his personal opinions on social media platforms.

According to human rights sources, Dr. Al-Faiz was tried before the Specialized Criminal Court, but the details and outcomes of the trial remain unknown to this day, amid a lack of transparency and disclosure in the judicial process.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Faiz is considered one of the distinguished legal professionals in the Kingdom, having previously served as a judge and Sharia advisor, and holding a PhD from the Higher Institute of Judiciary in Saudi Arabia.

In this context, Sanad Human Rights Organization affirms that the continued detention of Dr. Al-Faiz without clarity regarding his trial constitutes a violation of his fundamental rights to freedom of opinion and expression, and a fair trial.

Sanad renews its call on the Saudi authorities to release Dr. Abdullah Al-Faiz immediately and unconditionally, and holds the responsible parties fully accountable for his safety and freedom. The organization also calls for an end to the repression of opinion holders and the targeting of national professionals and experts.
