Saudi Arabia Releases Snapchat Influencer Abu Bjad Al-Harif After More Than Two and a Half Years of Arbitrary Detention
The Saudi authorities have released Snapchat influencer Abu Bjad Al-Harif after more than two and a half years of arbitrary detention, following his arrest in July 2022.
During his imprisonment, Abu Bjad suffered a stroke in September 2022, which required hospitalization. Despite his deteriorating health, he was unjustly sentenced to 20 years in prison before his eventual release.
Sanad Human Rights Organization congratulates Abu Bjad Al-Harif and his family on his release and wishes him a full recovery of his rights and complete freedom.
However, Sanad emphasizes that his release does not absolve Saudi authorities of responsibility for the violations he endured, including arbitrary detention and medical neglect. The organization calls for compensation for the harm he suffered and demands the release of all prisoners of conscience while urging Saudi authorities to end their policy of arbitrary arrests.
