1,720 days have passed since the arrest of journalist Zana Al-Shehri
Since November 2019, Zana Al-Shehri has been forcibly disappeared following her arrest, deprived of her freedom and her right to express her opinion, a price she paid for voicing her views. She worked as a journalist and translator for Al-Asr magazine.
It is worth noting that Zana Al-Shehri is not the only journalist imprisoned in Saudi Arabia. The authorities have also detained many journalists such as Malik Al-Ahmad, Ali Mohsen Abu Lahoum, Ahmed Abdelkader, Zuhair Katbi, Osama Sahli, Sami Al-Thibaiti, and others. In 2024, Saudi Arabia ranked 166th out of 170 countries in the World Press Freedom Index, reflecting the country’s repressive practices to silence dissenting voices and stifle press freedom.
SANAD Organisation for Human Rights calls on the Saudi authorities to reveal the fate of Zana Al-Shehri and to release her immediately and unconditionally. It also urges all human rights organizations and responsible entities to take action and pressure Saudi Arabia to release Zana Al-Shehri.
