SANAD Organisation documents the arrest of the Palestinian journalist Hatem Al-Najjar
SANAD Organisation, has confirmed from several sources the arrest of the Palestinian journalist and podcast host of Murabba on Thamania channel, Hatem Al-Najjar, due to previous tweets he published before turning 18.
Al-Najjar was arrested due to an electronic campaign in early January 2024 targeting his account on the “X”platform, which circulated his old tweets dating back to the reign of King Abdullah, in which he expressed his views on several issues. As a result of this campaign, Hatem Al-Najjar was arrested.
Activists previously circulated news of his arrest, and according to the information available to SANAD Organisation, Al-Najjar has been detained since mid-January 2024 in Al-Ha’ir Prison in Riyadh. Up to this moment, there is no information available about the conditions of his detention or the charges against him.
SANAD Organisation for Human Rights strongly condemns the arrest of the journalist Hatem Al-Najjar, considering it a severe violation of fundamental human rights, and demands his immediate release without conditions. Sanad also calls on the Saudi authorities to stop the practice of arbitrary arrests of citizens and residents on their territory for merely expressing their opinions.
