Musaid bin Hamad Al-Kathiri: A Prisoner Despite His Sentence Ending

In a secret trial lacking the most basic standards of justice, the Saudi judiciary sentenced the Saudi media personality, Musaid bin Hamad Al-Kathiri, to three and a half years in prison. However, even after more than two and a half years since the end of his sentence in September 2021, Al-Kathiri remains behind bars without any legal justification.

It should be noted that in September 2017, the Saudi authorities arbitrarily arrested Al-Kathiri without any legal basis, and during his detention, he suffered serious violations including being prevented from communicating with his family, being tried in secret sessions, and being denied the right to appoint a lawyer to defend himself.

The continued detention of Al-Kathiri, even after the end of his sentence, represents a grave violation of human rights and a clear indicator of the absence of justice in Saudi Arabia. SANAD Organisation for Human Rights calls for his immediate and unconditional release.
